Introducing Tom

Tom came into the profession after graduating in 2017, working for a small family business based in Shropshire.

He has been advising since June 2018 and joined Bowmore looking for a new challenge in a supportive firm that would help him to develop as an adviser. Tom has continued to work through his exams and is now a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and has achieved Chartered Status.

Alongside one of our paraplanners, Helen, Tom’s role involves looking after Bowmore’s advisory client bank, assisting them with any issues they may have and their ongoing financial planning.

What do you most enjoy about your job?

The human interaction. I love getting to know my clients’ personal circumstances and being able to help them in a way that is truly valuable to them. I feel privileged at the level of trust they put in me.

How do you like to spend your time outside of work?

I am a big rugby fan and love either watching the Bristol Bears or playing for my local club. I am also a big comedy fan and try to get to as many shows as possible.

What made you decide to do the work you’re currently doing?

My mum started her own financial planning business as I was growing up and I loved talking to her about how she was able to help her clients. It also allowed me to see how varied and interesting the job can be.

One thing that is guaranteed to make your day better…

Making sure I get some form of physical exercise.

What is one personal rule that you never break?

Honesty is the best policy.

What would your specialist subject be on Mastermind?

Rather nerdy, but Harry Potter, books or films.
